@AlleyNYC Winter 2013: A Curator’s Eye View

February 3, 2013 by catweaver

At AlleyNYC, a “legit” midtown co-working space full of “awesome bosses,” Eric Doeringer‘s bootlegs dot the walls with smart little contemporary art references. They are tiny (none larger than a foot wide or long) and do not call attention to themselves the way the artists they refer to would have. Doeringer’s humor and depth of reference may be lost on most of the people who whiz by his tiny pieces at the Alley, but they catch a few eyes here […]

@Gallery Advice: How to Price Art

November 16, 2012 by catweaver

a guide for dealers and emerging artists 1) Estimate a desired (reasonable) hourly wage 2) Assess material costs (paint, gesso, brushes, canvas, printers, paper) One and two, make up what you should use as a base: A piece which took 12hours at $20/hr + $10 material costs = $250 ish dollars, perhaps. 3) Make up a per sq. foot base cost chart based on the time it takes to complete works of different sizes. e.g. I have a 36″sq —9sq […]

@Gallery artist, Super Future Kid Rules The Waters at Family Business

April 4, 2012 by catweaver

London artist, Super Future Kid, sent @Gallery her “Super Future Shark” to put in Hennessy Youngman‘s curatorial debut show, “It’s a Small Small World” at Family Business. And we are so very proud to see her sharkie featured on the Family Business Facebook page and ruling the waters above the door of the gallery. Opening night was a full on street party/clusterf*k, but Super Future Kid’s Shark swam serenely above it all next to the words “Rest Eyes Here.”
